Bostonians who weren’t lucky—or rich enough—to snag tickets to one of the two upcoming Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake performances at Fenway Park this summer still have a shot at hearing tunes by the mega-artists.
Since 2008, not long after Timberlake put out his last album, Ryan Kelley has been spotlighting as the lead singer of a local cover band dedicated to honoring the musical stylings and performances of the former N’Sync member.
The Timberfakes — Boston’s own Justin Timberlake cover band — were elated when the pop star announced that he’d be making new music. After all, the group’s set list had been a bit stunted with his hiatus. (It’s been a lot of “Sexy/Back” and “Senorita.”) But the release of Timberlake’s single, “Suit & Tie,” also meant that the band had to do some quick arranging before its day-after-Valentine’s Day show at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Ever since Justin Timberlake put singing on the back burner for an acting career, we’ve been desperate for another chance to see him live. Enter the Timberfakes, a J.T. cover band (that splices in ’N Sync, Backstreet and Britney when they’re low on Timberlake’s material). “We thought that with Justin being a heartthrob would be a good fit (for Valentine’s weekend), and with that love theme in mind we want to make sure we string through songs that couples can dance to and slow dance to,” said lead singer Ryan Kelley. They’ll be appearing with East Coast Soul, a Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson cover band. At the Hard Rock Cafe, 24 Clinton St., tonight at 8. Tickets: $15 at the door; 617-424-7625.
Hey, Justin Timberlake, will you be our Valentine? No? Fine, we’ll go catch The Timberfakes at the Hard Rock Cafe instead. The local JT tribute act will be joined by another local cover band, East Coast Soul, who will be playing the tunes of Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.
