Tim Wakefield announces his retirement Wakefield, 45, was 200-180 with a 4.41 ERA in 627 appearances in his 19-year career. The Florida native spent the final 17 seasons with the Red Sox, going 186-168 with a 4.43 ERA over 590 games. He is third in team history for victories, trailing only Cy Young and Roger Clemens, who each had 192. Congrats on a tremendous career. (via: Extra Bases - Red Sox blog)

In today’s Boston Herald - ‘Ahead of the game’ The Timberfakes - A Very Fine Valentine Ever since Justin Timberlake put singing on the back burner for an acting career, we’ve been desperate for another chance to see him live. Enter the Timberfakes, a J.T. cover band (that splices in ’N Sync, Backstreet and Britney when they’re low on Timberlake’s material). “We thought that with Justin being a heartthrob would be a good fit (for Valentine’s weekend), and with that love theme in mind we want to make sure we string through songs that couples can dance to and slow dance to,” said lead singer Ryan Kelley. The Timberfakes - For years, I resisted calling myself a Justin Timberlake fan — my reasons ranged from “Ugh, he was in a boy band,” to “But…but…I’m a Backstreet Boys fan!” — but now I’ll say it loud and proud: J.T. is totally awesome. But since he’s chosen to focus lately on becoming a “serious actor,” The Timberfakes (who include Justin’s N*SYNC and SNL material in their setlists) will have to tide you over until he comes to his senses.
